Final Boss Battle

Almiras and Wing skidded to a halt as they reached the edge of the cliff. Pieces of footing crumbled before them as they turned around to face the approaching inferno. The monster was still out of sight, but their singeing whiskers told them that it was close. The looming castle in the sky shined with the same melting glow of the thing they were about to fight.

They looked at each other, but didn't say a word. Goodbye? Be safe? There was nothing to say. They knew from the moment that they left their dying forest village that if they found the monster and fought it, the results would be at the worst disastrous; at the best, bittersweet. The monster was not from their world. It took nightmares and made them real, and stole memories and twisted them. In every land Almiras and Wing traveled to to uncover the whereabouts of the monster, each adventurer they met who had confronted the monster had been found dead, insane, or wandering with no recollection of the past, friends and family. Almiras and Wing would have to be careful during the fight, lest the monster turn them against each other, or steal their memories and consume them whole.

If they lost, the world as they knew it would become a wasteland of chaos. If they won, one or both of them might not return the same. The monster could sever lifelong memories, after all.

The monster lunged forwards, gathering a large sphere of miasma in its jaws. Almiras and Wing raised their weapons.

This is a piece that I started over a year ago for an art trade with . We eventually both became too busy and had to cancel the trade. It's alright though, because I also realized at that point in time that I really had no idea to color it, and I was petrified that the look of the lands far below would not LOOK like they were far away, and that it would just turn out plain terrible. XD

I went ahead and finished it today because I had the lineart and some basic colors done, and I just wanted to get it done as a surprise giftie for Almiras. I think, I think it came out alright! XD The stylized Wing, Almiras, and world are a tribute to some of the games that started me off on the cute-animal platforming and role-playing genres: Klonoa: Door to Phantomile, Spyro the Dragon, and Chocobo Dungeon, to name a few. I also had some trouble during the planning of the piece because Almiras asked for our characters doing something together. It was kind of hard for me to come up with an idea because, having never role-played them before, I wasn't sure what they might do together, or if joining their worlds would keep them canon. I made up the quick story paragraphs after coming up with the scene, finally settling on how they might become friends through uniting for a common purpose. Yeah fighting evil! X3
